Overview of intimacy

Intimacy generally refers to the feeling of being in a close personal association and belonging together. It is a familiar and very close affective connection with another as a result of a bond that is formed through knowledge and experience of the other. Intimate relationships involve physical and emotional intimacy and it plays a central role in the overall human society because we have a general desire to belong and to love. Intimate relationships involve feelings of liking or loving one or more people, romance, sexual relationships, or emotional and personal support between the members, therefore, it usually happens among the family members, or lovers, or close friends, or go a step further, it could happen between human and animals too. The feature of intimate relationships or intimacy is to allow a social network for people to form strong emotional attachments.

Nowadays, along with ‘the mobile phones turned-into-camera-plus-screen’ (Simons J, 2009), people like to record their life moments by their smart phones everyday, many of them involve the intimate relationships of families and friends, such as a kiss on a wedding, or a hug at a party. The smart phone highlights the advantages of easy sharing to allow people share these contents with others depends on various social networks. Also for capturing some of the moments that happen quickly, it requires the cameraman quickly turn on the device and start recording, which could be possibly done by portable devices like mobile phones only.

‘The performance is not in the images we take, share and send to each other that has taken so much focus, rather, it is the hapit space in which we perform co-presence.’(Hjorth L, 2012) The realness takes a big place of making a mobile films, so this is another affordance that mobile film making carries along.  Everyday we see people spontaneously conduct intimate interactions around us anytime, these are the spontaneous overflow of true emotions, and the most impressive moments.
